My ex recently broke up with me (1.5weeks ago) after 3 years being together. The day after returning from New Jersey to spend Christmas with my relatives, she told me she wanted to breakup due to falling out of love, getting bored, and me not being the person she wants to spend her life with. At first I was shocked, but we gave each other final hugs (with tears) before driving away. Our relationship never had any cheating, never had any trust issues and we never lied to each other.
When I got home, I felt like I needed to do more. I couldn't just let the love of my life walk away without fighting for it. So I called her later in the night and we spoke for 2 hours. I asked her what went wrong and promised I would change those bad habits. I begged and pleaded for another chance but she said she couldn't or else she would set herself up for further disappointment. She said we would never get back. At this point I figured it was done. We wished each other good luck in our academics and I said my final 'I love you'
I immediately went NC except for the occasional text she sent to exchange our belongings. After finding this forum and reading what it's all about, I sent her the NC message after exchanging our things. And this is where I am now.
*A little note, after a brief 4 month fling during the senior year of high school, she broke up with me saying she liked someone else. We got back 3-4 months in university when she heard from a mutual friend that I had been talking with a girl. I remember her telling me she was crying and how she misses me being so nice and good to her. That is when we got back for 3 years.

Make a hole, we have another corpse on our hands! 
Now LCommander's "old" dead relationship needs a proper burial, and a headstone of course!
OK get a shovel and bury the past (baggage), from here on in it's a new day.
